TOMS RIVER — Two people were killed in an overturned car that closed down Route 37 by Community Medical Center on Monday afternoon.

Toms River police said two vehicles were involved in the crash at Hospital Drive on the eastbound side of Route 37 around noon. The deceased were in the same car, according to police. Two other people in the other car were injured.

The identities of those involved in the crash were not disclosed.

The road was closed eastbound at Oak Ridge Parkway for an investigation after the noon crash. One lane of westbound traffic was allowed past the scene. Multi mile delays developed in both directions approaching the area.

After 1 p.m.eastbound traffic was diverted onto Hospital Drive while two lanes got by the crash scene on the westbound lanes.

Jersey Shore Online reported a medical helicopter was transporting one person involved in the crash.
