The author of New Jersey’s proposed sports betting law says he’s willing to drop portions that would let people bet from their home computers or smart phones in order to get Gov. Chris Christie to sign it.

Sen. Ray Lesniak, an Elizabeth Democrat, tells The Associated Press he’ll drop those provisions from the bill if he can’t persuade Christie to go along with them. The bill is due for final votes in the Senate and Assembly on Thursday.

Lesniak says it’s more important to pass a law authorizing sports betting — even without Internet or phone betting — so the state can quickly move in federal court to overturn a ban on sports betting in all but four states.
