In October of 2012, Superstorm Sandy devastated the entire Jersey Shore, including Berkeley Island County Park. Four feet of water flooded the park, eroding the shoreline, washing away the parking lot and tearing apart bathrooms, picnic areas, and more.

Earlier this week, officials broke ground on what will be the new Berkeley Island County Park. The plans include bringing back the main attractions of the park, areas for swimming, fishing, and boating, as well as adding a splash park for children.
