For the second year in a row, Townsquare Media fielded a dodgeball team to compete in a tournament at Central Regional High School.

We were represented by myself, Andy Chase, Vin from Townsquare News, Ray from the Traffic Department, Ryan from Promotions, and Andria from Sales. We hoped to go beyond last year's first-round loss. Things were...not so great.

Before the games started, all the teams were gathered around the Official's Table, at which point we were informed that we "won the lottery" and would end up competing in the Middle School bracket, rather than the High School And Older bracket. This meant we would either (a) feel guilty for beating up middle school kids or (b) feel awful when we lost to them.

Last year we faced the Berkeley PBA. It's a best-of-three format; we lost the first game, came back to win the second, but lost the rubber match. This time around, The Average Joe's hit us with a clean sweep.

After the match, we found out that even though they were in the middle school bracket, The Average Joe's were all members of the school baseball team, meaning they had rocket arms combined with precision accuracy. We were set up!

It was a nightmare. I honestly didn't break a sweat, because we were eliminated so quickly. I wasn't even breathing heavy. Sigh.

On the plus side, The Average Joe's went on to win the bracket, so when you think about it, there's no shame in losing to the eventual champion.

Thanks to Central Regional for letting us compete again this year!  We'll be back next year, and maybe we'll try to actually practice this time around.
