Philipine van Aanholt, Liemarvin Bonevacia and Reginald de Windt are three names you probably don’t recognize, but not having a country to represent isn’t keeping them from their dream of competing for Olympic gold (or being the greatest part of the Opening Ceremony).

If you watched the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games on Friday you may noticed something unusual in between the countries of Iceland and India; the Independent Olympic Athletes. Philipine van Aanholt, Liemarvin Bonevacia and Reginald de Windt are competing under the Olympic flag because their country, Netherlands Antilles, was dissolved in 2010.
