You'll probably have to hang up the shorts, tank tops, and bathing suits for a few days.

We've turned the corner, New Jersey! The horrendous humidity has been once again zapped from our atmosphere, leading to cooler, drier, and much more comfortable conditions. For much of the state, Tuesday is the coolest morning since June 28th!

Furthermore, we'll enjoy a couple of days free from ferocious thunderstorms. That means the weatherman can hopefully catch up on sleep!

Even though drier air has moved into the lowest levels of the atmosphere, skies will remain mostly cloudy on Tuesday — although I wouldn't rule out a few peeks of sunshine by Tuesday afternoon. In addition, a stray shower will be possible at any time — although any rain on Tuesday won't be worthy of writing home about. There certainly won't be any strong to severe thunderstorms, which have been a daily threat for the last week or two.

High temperatures for Tuesday will be limited to the 70s — lower 70s in North Jersey, mid 70s in Central Jersey, and upper 70s in South Jersey. That's on the order of 5 to 10 degrees below normal for late July. I liken it to more of a "late spring" or "early fall" day than "middle of summer" kind of weather.

Tuesday night will be quiet and comfortable. With dry air and high pressure firmly in place, temperatures should fall into the lower to mid 60s for most of New Jersey. The coolest spots in the state will probably fall into the 50s. Almost chilly! Open up those windows and enjoy the fresh air!

I believe Wednesday will be an incredibly pleasant weather day, even though temperatures will once again end up below seasonal normals. Skies will be partly sunny and dry, with highs in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees.

By Thursday, changes return to the forecast. We'll warm up to the lower 80s for most of the state (upper 70s at the Jersey Shore), despite increasing clouds. We'll feel a slight uptick in humidity levels on Thursday too, as dew points return to about 70.

The timing of our next storm system is still very much up in the air, given uncertainty among our medium-range forecast models. A period of thunderstorms and heavy rain is likely sometime Thursday and/or Friday. For now, I'm putting first raindrops over New Jersey around Thursday evening — that means we'll probably escape Thursday daytime with dry weather. Some very heavy rain could pass over the Garden State early Friday morning, as the culprit area of low pressure tracks right over us. Friday could be a wet and stormy day overall — if so, temperatures would be below normal for yet another day. If we see late-day clearing, temps could soar well into the 80s to end the workweek.

One thing all the forecast models agree upon? A spectacular weekend. Very low humidity, beautiful sunny skies, seasonably warm temperatures in the lower to mid 80s, and a refreshing sea breeze keeping the beaches a few degrees cooler. Seriously, I could not dream up better weather for a mid-summer weekend. How could it get better?

Hopefully this forecast stays exactly the same in the coming days. Although I'm not looking forward to the Parkway traffic given such perfect summer weather conditions all weekend...
