We've all been there, feeling the disappointment when we hear the winning Mega Millions or Powerball ticket was sold in Ohio or Kansas or California. You throw your hands up, forget your dreams of telling off the boss and retiring to a private island, and get on with your day.

Bruce Schaffer of Marlton (outside of Cherry Hill) did the same thing: heard the winning ticket was sold across the country, and didn't think about the ticket in his wallet. It wasn't until later that he heard other tickets had been sold that matched five numbers, which would pay out a million dollar jackpot, that he dug out the tickets to check his numbers.

Schaffer immediately went to New Jersey Lottery headquarters in Lawrenceville to get the lucky ticket validated. NJ officials say another million-dollar ticket was sold in Jersey but a winner hasn't come forward, so don't throw yours out yet!
