Hurricanes Irene and Sandy badly damaged the North End Pavilion in Ocean Grove, but a new restaurant is finally aiming to bring the location back to life.

The boardwalk space had been empty and damaged for nearly five years since Hurricane Irene. Gannon Building & Renovation started the rebuilding process last February, and a number of small restaurants joined forces to create the Dunes Boardwalk Cafe.

Eight family-run businesses now inhabit the space in Ocean Grove: Bites on the Boards, Burgers on the Boards, Papa Blootz Pizza, It's All Good Kitchen, Miyako Sushi, Coney Waffle, The Lobstah Roll, and Wanna Taco.

Jim Gannon, of Gannon Building & Renovation, said

There was a bunch of individuals trying to run a big place. So we decided – no pun intended – ‘let’s cut the pizza pie up.' And get, you know, eight friends or business partners that we’ve known."
