With Halloween just one week away, you still have plenty of time to get your scare on, and two local haunted attractions now top the list on FrightFind.com as the best in the United States.

FrightFind.com scoured the country state-by-state for the "Top Haunted Houses in 2016," and Jackson, New Jersey's Nightmare at Gravity Hill tops the list as one of the best in the entire country.

And it should. Before you even get into the attraction, the farm (alter ego-Cicconi Farms, Inc.)  sets the mood with a giant video screen and a mix of the scariest and silliest movie clips--from "Nightmare on Elm Street" to "Beetlejuice"--and some of the best mood music (think Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and Rob Zombie's "Living Dead Girl") to set the stage for a night of insanity. There is a long, walk through trail of 13 haunted scenes, with actors at every turn (the creepy movie theater is always a thrill--and watch out for the chainsaw guy).  Another cool attraction--Zombie Paintball--gives would-be zombie hunters a chance to take a shot at the Walking Dead while metal music blasts in the background. Bonus: a hayride is available to bring you over to the fun. A bit scary for children under the age of 10.

The farm also has food available, picnic tables, and T-Shirts for purchase. Nightmare at Gravity Hill is located at 1005 Farmingdale Road, Jackson, NJ.

Coming in second was The Brighton Asylum, in Passaic, NJ. Dubbed by The Today Show as "The Scariest Place on Earth," the asylum goes all out with special effects, animatronics, and the all-new "Zombie Attack," where participants make up a team of 4-5 zombie hunters. All the information is available on the Asylum's website.

Locally, Camp Evans Base of Terror in Wall, NJ (2201 Marconi Road, Wall) is open every Friday and Saturday night at an affordable, $17. Located on an old army base, the half-mile walk changes up the scares every year. The all-volunteer effort raises money for the operation of The InfoAge Science History Learning Center and Museum and preserve the grounds of a National Historic Landmark. And they have clowns. Be warned! For more info, hit up their Facebook page.

Rounding out the list is the excellent Bloodshed Farms in Columbus, NJ. The attraction is run by the cast and crew who made The Haunted Prison in Mt Holly NJ --which ran from 2005 until 2013--so cool. The Fear Fest has four attractions and a nightly party like atmosphere with a live DJ, food, roaming zombies, games, entertainment, pumpkin smashing (!!!), and more. For the little ones, there is a special "no scare" event planned for Oct. 30. The farm is located at 2919 Route 206, Columbus. Check out the website for more details.
