Instant response by a patrolwoman following shots fired in Neptune November 17 results in a brief chase and a collar of the alleged gunman.

Turon Melvin, 31, of Asbury Park was found on the 200 block of Myrtle Avenue with a 45-caliber handgun that officer Domenique Russo discovered had been fired.

Russo had been patrolling the area of West Lake Avenue and Fisher Avenue when she heard the gunshot.

When she got to the area of the gunshot and continued her investigation, Melvin fled with the gun in his hand.

Melvin ran down the street and through some residential properties before Russo caught up to him and placed him in handcuffs after seizing the weapon.

Melvin faces a number of charges that were increased when he resisted arrest and threw bodily fluids at the arresting officer.

He's also charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Handgun for Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun and Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons.

Melvin was brought to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he was being held for a bail hearing under the bail reform guidelines.
