On my vacation last week, I spent some time with a friend at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.

It's a beautiful, and of course very sobering and haunting site.

There was a hush over the crowd as we all pondered the tragedy that unfolded that day, and gazed into the pool of water from the rushing waterfall cascading down into the footprint of the North Tower.

It was a sight to behold when looking across the street from the Memorial to see the soaring and stunning Freedom Tower overlooking the pool (there's of course another identical pool and waterfall in the footprint of the South Tower nearby).

Here's a shot of the Freedom Tower reflected in the windows of the Memorial Museum.

And here's a direct shot of the new Freedom Tower, a testament to mankind's strength to overcome any adversity.

My friend from high school, Chucky, was a hero of 9/11, and risked, and lost, his life to help others on that terrible day. I found his name engraved along the perimeter of the North Tower Fountain.

RIP dear man.
