Vince Neil Talks New Motley Crue Music, Upcoming Vegas Residency
Motley Crue singer Vince Neil doesn’t see the point in recording a full-length LP in today’s musical climate, but fans can still look forward to hearing some new songs on the soundtrack to an upcoming movie based on the band’s memoir, ‘The Dirt.’ Not that Neil has any idea when that might happen, mind you.
“I’m just the singer for the band — nobody tells me anything,” Neil laughed after being asked by Vegas.com when the movie and music might see the light of day. “I know it’s going to be out in late winter [or] early spring of next year.”
As for what the new music sounds like? “It doesn’t sound like anything,” Neil replied. “Except it sounds like Motley Crue. We’re a rock band, we do rock music and that’s it. We don’t ever try to sound like anybody or follow trends. We just put out good rock ’n’ roll songs.” By this point, he added, “You don’t like us, don’t listen to us. You like us, you’ll like the new stuff. It doesn’t really matter to us. We write songs basically for ourselves, not for the fans, because we’re rock fans ourselves. So we play what we like.”
That rule applies to the set lists for the band’s upcoming Las Vegas residency, called An Evening in Hell and scheduled to run between Sept. 18 – Oct. 6 at the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. “I think we’ll dig a little deeper in our bag of songs and do a lot of stuff that we haven’t done in many, many years,” said Neil. “Those are going to be fun — fun for us and fun for the audience. So it’s new songs, but it ain’t really new songs. They’re old songs, but they’re new to a lot of people.”
Aside from a revitalized song selection, fans can also expect the latest and greatest in stage theatrics. “There’s a lot of cool stuff we’re going to use this time,” Neil promised. “Technology changes so rapidly, and new stuff comes out all the time. All of a sudden someone goes, look at this, and we go, ‘Holy sh–, that’s cool.’ We have to outdo ourselves every time we put something new together. This one — I don’t know how we’re going to top this one.”
Of course, given that retirement seems to be looming on the horizon for the band, they may not need to worry about topping it. “We’ll do the world probably a couple of times over and call it quits,” Neil mused. “It’s about that time.”
