In the supplemental first round of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft, the Boston Red Sox selected Monmouth University pitcher Pat Light with the 37th overall pick.

Light became the highest draft pick in Northeast Conference history, the ninth Monmouth Hawk selected by a professional club and the sixth MU player in the last five years.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Light, a junior who was 8-3 in 14 starts for Monmouth this past season. “I have some friends in the Red Sox organization and they’ve told me it’s first class from the top down. I think it will be an easy negotiation. I am excited to get started and from what my adviser has told me, the Red Sox are excited too.”
