It's been a long, long journey, but a space probe has landed on a comet in what's being called "one of the hardest things that has ever been done by the human species."

The spacecraft was launched way back in March of 2004.

As reported at washingtonpost.com:

After 10 years of hard work and one nerve-wracking night, the Rosetta mission has made history by landing on the surface of a comet.

Howard Wolowitz has reportedly had a minor stroke. :-D

Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko was discovered in 1969, and is roughly 2.5 miles in diameter.

The Philae probe began closing in on the historic touchdown 7 hours ago after snapping a farewell picture of the mother ship and a tweet reading: "Hey @ESA_Rosetta, did you get my first postcard?" :-D

Now we await photos from this first time a spacecraft has landed on a comet.

This particular rock is 317 million miles from earth.
