James Hetfield, the legendary frontman of the metal masters Metallica celebrates his birthday today August 3rd, turning 50 years young.

James Hetfield has set the bar extremely high as the quintessential model of what a lead singer should be for a heavy metal band. Hetfield has one of the most distinct sounding vocals of anyone in heavy metal. Those growls and roars that come of out of Hetfield's microphone are the staple of Metallica's successful run for over 30 years.
