Numerous military and police agencies gathered at the funeral of retired New Jersey State Police Captain and Marine Corps veteran Harry Garbe of Toms River.

The 93-year old passed away last Friday November 24 peacefully surrounded by his family.

Garbe fought during World War Two with the U.S. Marine Corps including at the battle of Iwo Jima.

He later served 27-years with the New Jersey State Police before retiring as Captain and Commandant of the Academy in Sea Girt.

On Thursday NJSP Colonel Patrick Callahan along with other state police members and other family and friends said goodbye to an American and blue hero.

"Farewell, sir. Until we meet again," NJSP said on Facebook. "Thank you for your service to our country and state. Godspeed, sir."

"Not too long ago, we shared the picture of the Cap saluting with his uniformed photo in the background. After all of the years passed since retiring, he was still proud to BE a Trooper!"
