Police arrived on at the Robin Street home in the Cedar Glen West section of the township around 6 am and placed Victor Brescia under arrest, then brought him to the Ocean County Jail pending a court appearance.

Police say Victor's son, John, who told them he was able to disarm his father and get away before they arrived, received medical attention on the scene before being brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Police say John's injuries don't appear to be life threatening.

His father, Victor, faces charges on one count of Aggravated Assault with a Weapon and one count of Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.

Patrolman Nicholas Greenwood of the department’s Patrol Bureau ran point on the investigation along with Detective David Fusaro of Manchester's Investigations Bureau.

They were assisted by detectives from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit.
