Manchester Middle School Teacher struck by lighting
A Manchester Township Middle School Teacher is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after being struck by lightning around 2:30 pm this afternoon.
The 33-year old 8th grade teacher was struck while holding an umbrella on bus duty outside of the school as classes were being let out for the day, according to Manchester Police.
The teacher was standing on the sidewalk in front of the school with other staff members when the individual was hit by lightning.
She was then escorted into the school located on Route 571 by two other teachers and taken to the nurse’s office.
As part of the Nor'easter Ocean County was experiencing some 'thundersnow' this afternoon and when the strike occurred.
Manchester Police Officers responded as did EMTs from the Manchester Volunteer First Aid Squad.
She was alert and conscious but said she felt some tingling in her hand and arm and from there was brought to was the hospital for treatment.
