John L. Williams was found guilty of eluding Manchester police in 2012 during a three-day trial in Toms River, but cleared of a weapons charge, according to information from Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato's office.

Manchester police contended that Williams sped away from a patrolman and down Route 571 at about 3:38 AM on January 6, 2012. His 2007 Toyota Camry rammed a roadside fence and stopped on Seminole Street, police said.

Assistant Prosecutor Ehsan Chowdhry submitted a motion for an extended term on the second-degree charge. It would assign Williams a prison term of five to 20 years, with two-and-a-half to 10 years of parole ineligibility.

Williams is also required to give up driving privileges in New Jersey for six to 24 months, officials said. He remains incarcerated at the Ocean County Jail, awaiting court proceedings on unrelated charges.
