Lavallette Residents Denied Chance To Visit Homes

Residents of Lavallette hoping to board a bus and go in to see their homes and property today, will not be able to do so. 

The Ocean County Sheriff's Department says the request has been made to the Governor's Office but because the roads are't safe, it won't be happening until further notice.

The Lavallette town website reports "collapsed roadways, down utility poles and wires, in places there are still three to five feet of sand on the roadway surface."

On the Toms River township website, officials explained they have found over 22 sink holes on the roads north of Seaside Heights, some as deep as 8 feet. The NJ Department of Transportation is working to make repairs but until that work is complete no residents will be allowed back. The website reports there is no timetable for repairs.

Residents of Seaside Park find themselves in the same situation as residents who thought they would be able to return home today were later denied the chance due to the same conditions.
