Lakewood Blueclaws prepare for packed crowds coming to see Tim Tebow this weekend

From the gridiron to the baseball diamond, former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow‘s dream of playing in the major league’s one day heads to Lakewood this weekend, but if you want to go to a game at First Energy Park buy your tickets sooner rather than later.

The Lakewood Blueclaws are playing well in their own right having taken three of four games this past weekend against the Met’s Low-A team, the Columbia Fireflies, including a no-hitter Saturday pitched in part (8 2/3-innings) by prospect Nick Fanti who fanned Tebow en route and earned South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week honors.

The team itself, as of Tuesday May 9 holds steady with a record of 19-13 sitting a half-game behind Hagerstown for first place.

On a side but more promising note, Nick Fanti has caught the eyes of the big club too.

With the Philadelphia Phillies well into rebuild mode, current stars on the big club including Maikel Franco, Freddy Galvis and even Jersey native Mark Leiter Jr. are paving the way for future Philly success for other prospects like another former Blueclaw star, J.P. Crawford.

While Tebow is having a decent and slow start to the season with a couple of homeruns and mediocre batting average, it may be a moot point with fans expected to pack First Energy Park on Mother’s Day weekend.

“We have sold out of reserve seats for the game on Saturday and the game on Monday,” said Blueclaws Director of Communications Greg Giombarrese. “We have very limited reserved seat availability the game on Sunday and the game on Tuesday.”

Giombarrese adds that even though most seats are sold out, he suggests getting your tickets sooner rather than later for any one of the other upcoming weekend games.

“Just because we’re out reserved seats on Saturday and Monday, it doesn’t mean you can’t come out,” said Giombarrese. “We still have sod squad general admission for all four games but again, if you’re thinking of coming out I would re-think getting your tickets in advance.”

He suggests even getting your tickets online now so you can avoid long lines at the ballpark.

“If you buy your tickets online, print them out or download them to your phone,” said Giombarrese. “Then you don’t have to wait on line at will-call, you can just bring your phone or the printed ticket directly to the gate.”

Blueclaws fans have seen big name professional athletes and entertainers visit First Energy Park in the past but none of them were wearing a visitors uniform.

“We’ll definitely be prepared with additional game day staff on the security side but also our game day staff will be at full-operation because the Saturday crowd especially is going to be the biggest crowd of the year,” said Giombarrese.
