Harley Quinn Smith, daughter of NJ filmmaker Kevin Smith, is active on social media like any typical 17-year-old would be. She has about 129k followers on Instagram. When you're a public figure like she is, and when you open yourself up to the world as publicly as she does, it's a sad reality that some douchebags are going to make themselves feel better by trashing you.

Harley posted this pic to Insta a few days ago

Pretty much the most basic headshot one could imagine. Nothing outrageous, nothing scandalous, nothing provocative, nothing that could inspire a reaction other than "LIKE". Unless of course, you're a horrible person.

Among the nearly 8,000 likes and nearly 500 comments, one specific jerk shone through. She screencapped the comment and showed her father, who then posted a well-crafted ran on his own Instagram & Facebook pages. (NSFW language ahead)

Harley posted her own reply to the harassment (it looks like she inherited her father's love of NSFW language)

The offending account has since been deactivated, either by the owner's choice or by the surely countless incident reports submitted to Instagram.

As much as we'd like to think "you just need to ignore these people", I'm feeling more and more that the most effective way to eliminate this sort of online harassment is to publicly shame the offenders. Good job Kevin & Harley!
