In 2010, Richards wrote “Life”, his autobiography. Now, he has another book in the works, this time with children in mind. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers announced on Tuesday that it would publish Mr. Richards’s “Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar,” as both a hardcover book with a CD and an ebook on Sept. 9th.

In the book Richards will recall some of the childhood memories from “Life”, specifically his relationship with Theodore Augustus Dupree, his maternal grandfather, a jazz musician who encouraged Richards to begin playing the guitar.

Richards is working with his 28-year old daughter, Theodora. She is best known as a model, but also studied at New York Academy of Art and the School of Visual Arts. She'll be doing the illustrations for the book with pen and ink collages.

“I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I’m talking about,” Mr.  Richards said in a statement. “The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me.”
