Joan Jett at 54: Poised to be The Reigning Rock Queen of Wingstock 2012!
A very happy (early) birthday to a Rock Icon!
To say we’re extremely proud to welcome her to our big bash is the understatement of the year.
Born Joan Marie Larkin on September 22, 1958, she wisely chose to call herself the decidedly cooler name of Joan Jett.
A founding member of The Runaways, Joan of course is best known as the frontwoman for her band, The Blackhearts, which she formed in the early 80’s and who will be rockin’ the stage with her this September 29th at First Energy Park.
Her website best describes this amazingly talented woman:
“Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, a visionary. As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, she’s had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles.
She sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records.
She’s acted in moves and television, including 1987’s Light of Day and in a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, The Rocky Horror Show…
Joan Jett has spent her lifetime breaking barriers anad challenging expectations, this is, after all, a woman who is both a spokesperson for PETA and a devoted supporter of the U.S. Military.
She’s fought hard for all of her historic accomplishments, yet she remains humble and appreciative.
‘I’ve had a blessed career, she says. “I consider myself so lucky to have be en able to do things my own way.’ “
And needless to say, we consider ourselves so lucky to have her grace the stage at Wingstock 2012 to remind us why we all love rock and roll!
