As Joan Jett gets ready to release a new album with The Blackhearts later this month, she also celebrates her birthday this weekend, born on September 22, 1958 in Wynnewood, Pa.

"Unvarnished" is poised for release on September 30th.

Ultimateclassicrock.com reports that this album was born from the very difficult decade that Joan has experienced.

"Joan Jett has been through some dark times over the last 10 years — so many that she refers to it as her ‘decade of death.’ But she’s channeled that grief into a new album, ‘Unvarnished,’ that contains some of her most personal work."

The new album contains the song, "Make It Back", which was written about Superstorm Sandy.

"It was very devastating. My town is still beat up. People were really crushed. It gave me a sense of what it’s like to be in a war zone.”

Joan's currenty on tour in the States.
