"We're honored to be there and we're honored to do our part," Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. said.

The city received a request for police officers to help assist in providing security when Donald Trump officially takes the oath of office to become the 45th president of the United States, according to Troiano.

"Some of them have been on the force for quite a while and some are relatively new, but they're all trained, they know what to do, and we're excited to be able to be part of it," Troiano said.

The Wildwood police officers won't know their responsibilities until they arrive in the nation's capitol.

"Exactly what it is we haven't been told, but we do know that they'll be detailed to certain areas to do their job," said Troiano. "We're pretty lucky to have a great police department led by our chief [Robert N. Regalbuto] who does a phenomenal job for us."

The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police did not know Wednesday whether any other departments in the state had been requested to help with the inauguration.
