There were a few accidents on New Jersey roadways Saturday morning from the icy road conditions following last night's freezing temperatures, one in Brick Township is simply the latest.

Police say Robert Himpele Jr., 57, of Toms River was heading east on Beaverson Boulevard in the left lane in a grey 2004 Toyota Tundra when his pickup slid on the icy road forcing him to cross the double yellow lines and collided with a car head-on in the westbound lanes near Old Toms River Road.

The impact between the Tundra and Karla MacCarrone's white 2017 Acura MDX caused extensive damage to both vehicles around 7:33 am.

MacCarrone, 48, of Toms River sustained some internal injuries while Himpele Jr. suffered a fractured left wrist.

Both were later brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

Witnesses to the crash also stopped to help and call 911.

While the crash remains under investigation police are asking any additional witnesses to call their Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.

Several patrol cars were on scene responding and investigating the crash.

The Ocean County Road Department responded to treat the roadway for the ice.
