A pair of oceanfront property owners in Brick have sued the state over "dangerous conditions" after a steel wall was installed for storm protection.

NJ.com has a lengthy article detailing the suit, but it boils down to the homeowners claiming they have lost access to the beach because of severe erosion. They also have an issue with the fact that the state built the wall without getting easements and without paying them for loss of property.

However, the New Jersey Disaster Control Act does NOT require the state to pay property loss to owners.

The steel wall was installed in 2014 to strengthen a section of Route 35 in Brick and Mantoloking that was devastated by Superstorm Sandy's surge.

What do you think? I get the complaint of these people, if you paid the exorbitant amount of money to buy beachfront property, you want access to that beach. On the other hand, shut up you whiny baby. You came within inches of losing your home during Sandy, and if this wall is built for your protection, you need to suck it up. On the flip side of that, I'm leery of anything "the State" says they need to do "for your protection", because by nature I'm distrusting of authority.
