Toms River Police continue investigating the cause of a fatal hit-and-run that killed one pedestrian near the intersection of Highland Parkway and Herflicker Boulevard on Sunday.

Officers from the Toms River Police Department responded to reports at approximately 10:30 am Sunday morning to a white male lying unconscious on the road, according to Chief Mitch Little.

Upon arrival to the scene police found township resident 45-year old Keith Elliott of 15 Messenger Street deceased from injuries sustained in the hit-and-run.

Elliott was believed to be walking to the bus station on Highland Parkway to be driven to Lacey and spend Christmas with family.

Investigators are back on the scene today to collect surveillance from businesses that were closed for Christmas Day on Sunday.

The next of kin has been notified and the investigation into this accident is ongoing.
