The father of a special-needs child is leading a campaign to build a recreation complex for special-needs kids in Toms River.

Christian Kane's son was injured in a car accident in 2012. His son has been unable to participate in traditional sports, so Kane wants to build a playground that will cater to children with special needs.

The project will include renovations to the Silver Bay Elementary play area. A baseball field would be converted into a wheelchair-accessible turf field; the existing playground equipment would be replaced to be handicap-accessible; a nine-hole minigolf course would be added; finally, the parking lot would be adjusted to include more handicapped parking spaces.

The Pride of Toms River Little League, Todd Frazier is lending his support to the project.

You can help out this weekend by stopping by Bob's Bagel Cafe, 1350 Hooper Avenue. Friday through Sunday, the bagel shop will be donating all tips, taking donations, selling $5 plain-only dozens, and giving all the proceeds to the cause.
