Today, August 17, is Sandcastle Day.

But it won't be until Saturday, September 16 (from 11 am to noon) that you'll be able to be part of the attempt to break the world record for the most sandcastles built in one hour.

It's happening at Martell's on the Point Pleasant Beach and it's to celebrate the 15th year of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County!

If you're like most people, you're intrigued by the amazing artwork that's created with such care and precision, only to be washed away soon enough by the incoming tide.

I've always been totally captivated by the beautiful creations that talented artists come up with at events like this, all the more so because the artwork in sand is so temporary.

Have you ever been part of a sand-sculpting contest? Do you ever go to see them?

Will you take part in the contest at Martell's?
