Long before there were online dating sites or television shows that hooked people up like The Bachelor, there was the hokey but entertaining Dating Game.

Jim Lange, the first host of the once popular game show, died at his home in Mill Valley, California on Tuesday at age 81.

Though Lange had a successful career in radio, he is best known for his television role on ABC's "The Dating Game," which debuted in 1965 and on which he appeared for more than a decade, charming audiences with his mellifluous voice and wide, easygoing grin.

He worked in radio out in California until his retirement in 2005, and radio was his real love, according to his wife.

"Good radio is still the most fun," Jim Lange said, "It always will be. Plus, you don't have to wear makeup and you don't have to shave."

That's exactly why I like it. :-D

P.S. Andy Kaufman punks Jim in the video above. And below it's a very young Farrah Fawcett's appearance on the show in 1969.
