Our next chance of rain is forecast to arrive next Tuesday, followed by much cooler temperatures.

The broken record forecast continues, with 70s and mixed sunshine continuing right through the upcoming weekend. Only subtle day-to-day changes are expected. Until Tuesday, that is, when our pattern change looks to shift dramatically through the final week of October.

Thursday is starting off comfortable, with temperatures a bit warmer than the past few mornings. No frost here — morning temps are in the 40s and even 50s.

The only difference between Wednesday and Thursday will be a few fair-weather clouds streaming into the sky. So I've opted for a "persistence" forecast — I took Wednesday's high temperatures and copy-pasted them into Thursday's forecast. We'll enjoy lower 70s, with "mostly" sunny skies (rather than perfect blue overhead). Once again, this qualifies as unseasonably warm — normal highs are 64 to 66 degrees.

Thursday night will be clear and quiet, with temperatures staying well above normal. Lower to mid 50s? That's really not that cool, especially considering late October is right around the corner.

Another gorgeous day is on deck for Friday, with plentiful sunshine and warm high temperatures in the lower to mid 70s.

We'll keep the mild temperatures for the weekend too, although clouds will start to increase. Saturday will eventually go partly sunny, and clouds will probably win the sky by Sunday afternoon. But again, with high temperatures still in the 70s, there won't be much to complain about. Overall, a great weekend for your autumn plans — it just won't really feel much like autumn.

In the long-range forecast, Monday looks good — mostly cloudy, but solidly in the mid 70s for most of NJ.

Our changes come on Tuesday, as a slow-moving cold delivers wind and rain to the Garden State. Models currently suggest about an inch of healthy rainfall throughout the day — that's enough for a potential washout.

Behind the rain and the wind and the front will eventually come cooler air. We'll start to feel it Wednesday, and temperatures really look to dip for next Thursday and Friday. Be prepared for some of the coolest air of the season by next weekend through Halloween.
