Millions of people use the Facebook Messenger app, which includes your location with every message you send...you may be surprised at just how precise the location is.

A Facebook intern did some research regarding the GPS technology, and came up with some scary results.

the latitude and longitude coordinates of the message locations have more than 5 decimal places of precision, making it possible to pinpoint the sender’s location to less than a meter

That is crazy precise, and when you combine that precision with the amount of messages people send, it's pretty easy to track someone with just a few keystrokes.

You may not believe that there are enough of these location tagged messages to provide truly invasive data on any one person, since they must be on mobile, with GPS on, and choose to share their location for it to be sent… right?

What you should keep in mind is that the mobile app for Facebook Messenger defaults to sending a location with all messages.

If you want to stop Facebook from logging your location, the simplest thing to do is just delete the app. That might be extreme for some people, so here's another option.
