The Monmouth County DWI Task Force will set up a checkpoint tonight in Asbury Park, according to an announcement from Task Force Coordinator Chief Michael W. Palmer.

If you're driving along Main Street (Route 71) in Asbury Park from 10pm Friday through 2am Saturday, officers will pulls vehicles over to check a driver's sobriety, and can also check for other offenses like outstanding warrants.

Whenever these announcements are made, lots of people question why the cops make it known, rather than just keeping the element of surprise. According to the Task Force, revealing the date, time, and location gives fair notice to the public, and also increases the constitutionality of the stops.
