If you have an old cell phone lying around your house or under a pile of crap in a junk drawer, you can donate it to the Ocean County Library  to take part of a program called Cell Phones For Soldiers to help our military servicemen and women purchase calling cards so they can stay in touch with their families when they are deployed overseas. (remove all SIM & SD cards before donating)

You can drop off your old phone at the Public Library in Brick, Barnegat, Berkeley, Jackson, Little Egg Harbor and Toms River branches.

According to the Patch:

Cell Phones For Soldiers is a national non-profit organization founded in 2004. The organization is dedicated to serving troops and veterans with free communication services and emergency funding. It has provided more than 220 million minutes of talk time to U.S. troops serving around the world through the group’s Minutes That Matter program and has assisted more than 2,800 veterans through its Helping Heroes Home program.
