A dog is rescued from a Whiting home on Thursday by emergency crews responding to a structure fire at a home on Baltimore Avenue in the Roosevelt City section of town where it was also discovered nobody was inside at the time of the blaze.

Emergency responders saw smoke bursting from the home upon arrival and immediately stepping into action.

The home was later deemed uninhabitable due to the damage caused by heavy smoke.

The dog was rescued by firefighters as they searched the home for anyone inside during their efforts to put out the fire and was transported to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

An origin of the blaze remains under investigation.
