Townsquare Media and the Jay & Linda Grunin Foundation are teaming up to salute our local heroes with our Warrior of the Week program.

Congratulations to Donald Walsh, our Warrior of the Week for the week of May 28th, 2018.

According to Donald's nominator:

Being an Air Force Veteran, Don has always enjoyed mentoring young adults in their quest to better themselves. For over 18 years, he has worked with a mentor group in New England and Florida who work with young men and women who want to begin a career in the Navy, either as a SEAL or diver. He is a swim coach for these groups, teaching them combat side stroke, on a voluntary basis, along with helping with all other facets of this training. He has mentored over 6,000 SEAL candidates during his years working with the mentor groups. He thoroughly enjoys the time he volunteers with these groups and is always there whether in person giving lessons or on email answering questions....anything to help these fine young men and women out. He also wrote a children's book "Teach The Beach" dedicated to a fallen Navy SEAL, and the book deals with ocean safety and rip currents. He is currently volunteering with the Sea Grant Consortium in Atlantic Highlands going around to schools and libraries giving talks about ocean safety. He also has a DVD Teaching Combat Side Stroke for those interested in the SEAL program. He is a marathon swimmer, being the first person from New Jersey to swim around the Isle of Jersey in England, a distance of 41 1/2 miles as he has an unbelievable love and respect for the ocean.

Congratulations to Donald Walsh, our Warrior of the Week.
