While I was on break one day, I took a walk around Downtown Toms River and noticed a cool new classic rock-themed coffee shop - Bubby's Beanery!

The first thing I noticed was that the door was covered in pictures of musicians, and that there was sitting area with a small table made out of an Earth Wind and Fire record. I opened the door, and found that Bubby’s Beanery was not only a coffee shop - there were a range of records for sale, along with t-shirts and music magazines!

I also loved the decor of the shop - records on the wall, records behind the counter where coffee was being made, tour posters, real amplifiers, guitars, and more!

The owner, John was there and spoke to me all about the records and music magazines he has for sale, his coffee, and about music in general! I also saw that his wife and kids were helping run the shop too!

I asked John about a vinyl and reel to reel player that were on display, and he said had plans to play music on that in the store – the way ‘music should be heard.’ John also showed me a ‘lyrics of the day’ selection on the chalkboard behind the register and said he takes suggestions for it from customers.

All of the coffee selections were named after songs. I bought a cup of the ‘Cortez the Killer.’ It was a Columbian blend with notes of chocolate, melon, and cocoa. And it was great! Some of the other flavors are ‘Hey Joe,’ ‘Midnight Rider,’ and ‘Lake of Fire.’ They also have a selection of teas available for purchase, and they carry Ob-Co Donuts.

Bubby’s Beanery is located on 44 Washington Street, and is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
