Bruce Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey, and the state, and the world, has never been the same since.

Of course, a rock icon of the magnitude of The Boss doesn't ever really get old, he just gets more distinguished.

And the fact that he's now of "retirement age" means absolutely nothing, because rock Gods don't retire and they certainly don't need Social Security (although he's not eligible for another year, anyway).

As an article at nj.com says:

The only type of security The Boss currently requires is a troop of brawny, polo-shirted men standing below stage to keep scores of fans under control during his monstrous arena shows. Also, someone to stand watch at the gates guarding his lavish Rumson home and horse farm in Colts Neck.

His latest work is the "Video of the Week: The Wrestler", which you can check out at Bruce's website, brucespringsteen.net:

"While on tour in Ireland, I received a call from my old friend Mickey Rourke. He talked about the film he was working on, said it was a picture that meant a great deal to him, and asked if I might have a song.

He explained the character to me. I always felt there was a place where the best of our work crossed over, so I told him I’d give it a shot. I wrote the song quickly, recorded it with Toby Scott, and Mickey and I picked up a couple of Golden Globes."

And in case you missed it, Springsteen released a short film for the song "Hunter of Invisible Game" on July 9, 2014 through his website. It marked his directorial debut.

Happy birthday to The Boss and many, many more!
