"When you think of Bruce Springsteen, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Maybe it’s the heartland rock music of your youth, or the E Street Band. Perhaps you think of New Jersey—heck, a lot of people do. But I have to admit I chuckle every time I hear that, because honest to God, I’ve only been to the place maybe three, four times tops.

Crazy, right? You throw a few details about seaside boardwalks and Atlantic City into your lyrics and suddenly people start calling you Mr. New Jersey."

That's what "Bruce" told The Onion: "America's Finest News Source" back in December of 2012 with a commentary in the parody newspaper.

And there's more, because of course, it gets funnier and funnier as he goes on about his deception. :-D

Of course, The Onion loves to put up fake stories about Bruce and this isn't the first time they've had fun with The Boss. You can find out how else they've sort of playfully punked Bruce in "The Complete Guide to (fake) Bruce Springsteen" here.

With Andy Chase posting that funny "cultural" map of New Jersey a few days ago, I thought this was due for a revisit.
