BCC Building Odor Was Methane Gas
Four buildings on the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft were evacuated Friday morning due to an odor caused by the sewage system serving the building.
Middletown Fire Department Chief John Gorsegner told the Middletown Patch high levels of methane gas. A test of the area showed 46 parts per million; Gorsenger said it should be none.
Earlier, a notice on the Monmouth County campus' official website said the Main Academic Complex, ATeC, the Library, and the CAR building were all evacuated around 9 a.m. Classes in those buildings scheduled at or before 11 a.m. were canceled. Labs and classes in the MAC scheduled for 12 noon went on as usual.
The school dismissed administrators and staff whose work locations are in Library and MAN. All classes scheduled in MAN and the library will be relocated and held as scheduled.
Police and fire from Brookdale, Lincroft, Middletown and several other surrounding towns responded including the Monmouth County Hazmat team responded.
Middletown Patch reports this is the third time this year there has been an evacuation on the Brookdale campus.
