Brett Ratner Out As Producer of Academy Awards

Brett Ratner, who was set to produce the 2012 Academy Awards has “resigned” after controversy about his use of a homophobic slur. Add him to a growing list of celebrities who just don’t know what to say. I will never understand why people forget their surroundings and say stupid things in public. It is never okay to use racist or homophobic slurs but to do it when you know cameras are running just makes it doubly stupid. In 2011 people can’t just say these things and get away with it. I know people think that the world is currently too politically correct, but it is what it is.

The damage control has begun already for Ratner who has contacted GLAAD and has vowed to be smarter in the future. How Ratner will recover now is the question. Michael Richards never fully recovered from his incident but his career was already failing. Don Imus has had some success but nothing like before his controversial comments. It will be interesting to see if Ratner continues to be among the top producers/directors in Hollywood after this.
