The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir will release a rare new album before mounting his first solo tour since 2013. Blue Mountain, which is being described as a "cowboy album," is due on Sept. 30 in compact disc and digital formats. Vinyl editions will follow, Jambase reports.

Blue Mountain is said to be a “a deeply personal folk music tribute to the ranch stories and fireside songs of Bob’s youth, told new with amazing wisdom and heart.” Weir teased the project last August, performing the title track for Dan Rather's Big Interview on AXS. You can see the track listing, as well as Weir's new tour dates, below.

This is Weir's first solo release in more than a decade, and the first to feature all-new music in more than 30 years. Weir worked with Ratdog in the interim, as well as with several Dead-related groups. He just completed a cross-country tour with Dead and Company, a Grateful Dead offshoot band that grew out of the group's celebrated Fare Thee Well concerts. Weir was joined by two of the other remaining surviving members of the Dead, along with John Mayer.

Josh Ritter collaborated with Weir on Blue Mountain; Josh Kaufman served as producer. Other featured performers on the 12-track album include the National's Bryce Dessner, Aaron Dessner and Scott Devendorf. Weir's tour begins on Oct. 7 at San Rafael, Calif., and includes stops in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Brooklyn, before a concluding show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
