Belmar man critical after being hit by car Sunday night

A Belmar man who was hit by a car along Main Street in the borough around 7:35 pm Sunday remains in critical condition from injuries he sustained in the accident.

Monmouth County Prosecutors say the pedestrian was heading near the 15th Avenue section of Main Street when a 2002 Mercedes Benz 320 Wagon struck him.

The victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he is still undergoing treatment.

The driver, Brian H. Getcliffe of Point Pleasant was uninjured in the crash.

Police are in the process of identifying the injured pedestrian.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and Belmar Police Department.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information to assist the investigative team is asked to call Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Kristian DeVito at 800-533-7443.
