Talk about a memorable weekend. Whether you love or hate the acts that performed at this year’s Bamboozle festival, there is no denying the positive impact the three-day concert had on our state, and more specifically, Asbury Park. Thousands upon thousands of people from all over fled to the Asbury Park boardwalk to see their favorite performers play. The weather was beautiful and the local Asbury Park aura was prevalent.

The headlining acts did not disappoint. Incubus, The Foo Fighters and Bon Jovi pleased the rockers while Skrillex, Mac Miller and Brand New had the youngsters dancing on the sand. Acts that were born and bred here in the Garden State like The Gaslight Anthem, The Bouncing Souls and Bon Jovi made sure to take time out of their set to praise the importance Asbury Park had in their careers while the world renowned Foo Fighters made it a point to mention how cool it was to perform with the ocean to their left, music history to their right and a sea of appreciatory music fans directly in front of them.

Check out this video I took of all of Asbury Park chanting the hook to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer”

Traffic, parking and security procedures were all executed flawlessly from what I was able to see and it seemed as though everyone was having the time of their life. All this, in Asbury Park, a town that was once the gem of the Jersey Shore, and may return to that status once again. Asbury Park is being cleaned up and the reputation is shifting day-to-day. Having a festival of this magnitude the weekend before Memorial Day only helped. It proved that this little town can handle anything. With Point Pleasant Beach instituting a midnight curfew in the very near future and Seaside not being for everyone, Asbury Park is in perfect position to take back the throne as the go-to place on the Jersey Shore.

The most important factors are already set in place. Between the beach, the boardwalk and more than three historic music venues, there is never a shortage of things to do. Then you have Cookman Avenue, a street filled with nightlife, great restaurants and mom-and-pop stores.

Asbury Park is definitely on the upswing. Let’s hope the town takes the momentum from Bamboozle and uses it to their advantage. In my opinion, there’s nothing like spending the day in Asbury Park, and the more people I get to share that experience with, the better.
