Crowd Boos Axl Rose at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

In an open letter last week, Axl Rose made himself perfectly clear: he didn’t feel “wanted or respected” by his former Guns N’ Roses bandmates, so not only would he skip the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he didn’t want to be inducted at all.

A couple names you may recognize said the decision was a mistake, and the crowd on Saturday night made their feelings known as well.

Chants of “F–k Axl!” could be heard throughout the evening, and when Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong took the stage to induct GnR into the Hall of Fame, he had to shush audience members who booed when Axl’s absence was referenced.

After raining down compliments on the four band members who were there — Slash, Steven Adler, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan — Armstrong mused, “Let’s see, who am I missing?”

The crowd’s reaction left no doubt they know exactly who Armstrong was talking about, causing the Green Day vocalist to say, “No, shut the f–k up, shut up, shut up! This man’s a bad ass f–king singer. He’s one of the best frontmen to ever touch a microphone.”

Axl’s decision to skip the ceremony had some notable critics as well. While interviewing Slash at the Golden Gods awards last week, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider said, “It’s crap. If he can’t put this stuff aside for an event like that, for a recognition like that, to do the cool thing and just in respect of what you guys have done, I think it’s totally screwed up.”

To his credit, Slash didn’t take the bait, saying only, “I’m not going to comment on all that, but I’ll be there.”

Snider wasn’t the only one to voice his opinion about the matter. Ron Wood, a two-time inductee as both a member of the Faces and the Rolling Stones, believes Axl will later regret snubbing the Hall of Fame festivities.

“He’ll think, ‘I should have done it,’” Wood told the Associated Press. “[He should've dropped] all the qualms and all the differences.”
