24-year old Sevon Hill of Toms River and 24-year old Shakar "Anthony" Barksdale of Seaside Heights each face a number of charges for the shooting of 30-year old Steven Stallworth.

Hill and Barksdale were each charged with one count of Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, Certain Persons not to Possess a Firearm, three counts of second degree Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin & Cocaine), third degree Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance and 2 counts of third degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

Around 9:20 pm on the night of the shooting Toms River Police responded to a 9-1-1 call about an unresponsive black male lying outside an apartment.

Police found Stallworth suffering from a gunshot wound by Building 'D'.

He was pronounced dead just over an hour later.

Stallworth's death was officially ruled a homicide from a gunshot wound by the medical examiner March 6.

Hill and Barksdale's names then came up as possible suspects who were both living at a local hotel prior to the murder.

A check of their room on the night of the murder uncovered a mass amount of cocaine and heroin.

The murder of Stallworth was part of a conspiracy, prosecutors say.

The suspects had relocated to another hotel and when investigators combed through that room, they found even more cocaine and heroin which led to charges for both Hill and Barksdale.

They're both being held without bail in the Ocean County Jail.

Supervising Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Michael R. Weatherstone is prosecuting the case.

The investigation was conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crimes Unit, the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Sherriff's Department Criminalistics Investigation Unit, New Jersey State Police, the Manchester Police Department, the Lacey Police Department, the Seaside Heights Police Department, and the Brick Police Department.

Any person with information relevant to this investigation should contact Detective John Carroll of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit (732) 929-2027 extension 3964 or Detective Lou Santora of the Toms River Police Department (732) 349-0150 extension 1276.

The public is reminded that criminal charges are accusations. Each person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until their guilt is established in court.
