Temperatures across New Jersey have been below normal since late last week. And yesterday, the coldest air of the season so far brought record-breaking morning temperatures in the 20s and 30s. I am happy to report that temperatures will be significantly warmer for today.

A warmer air mass has been arriving via a brisk southwest wind since early Tuesday morning. That warm air advection has ultimately prevented a frost/freeze this morning. And, perhaps more importantly, high temperatures will push into the upper 60s today - a full 15 degrees warmer than yesterday, and even a few degrees above normal. I would not be surprised at all to see a few 70+ degree readings on the temperature map this afternoon. Winds should calm a bit throughout the day, and skies should stay mostly sunny.

Wednesday looks like a beautiful, warm autumn day, with highs across the entire Garden State in the lower 70s.

We will squeeze out one more nice, above-normal day on Thursday, with highs in the lower to mid 70s, before a change in the winds will bring a return to the autumn chill.

Cooling Down...

A fairly strong front will push across New Jersey from Thursday evening through early Friday morning. While the frontal passage looks mostly dry, a few showers can't be ruled out (especially in North Jersey). Rainfall amounts should be light.

The bigger weather impact will be on Friday, behind the front, as cooler air returns to New Jersey. High temperatures for both Friday and Saturday will be stuck in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Luckily, winds will be fairly light, so it won't be "blustery" behind the front. Friday's skies look sunny, although clouds will increase on Saturday.

Weekend Preview

So Saturday will turn mostly cloudy with below-normal temperatures, as highs will be limited to about 60°. As winds turn from northerly to southwesterly on Sunday, temperatures will warm accordingly, temporarily bouncing into the mid to upper 60s.

But by Sunday evening, we will have to scan the skies as our next front approaches. At this time, the frontal passage late Sunday looks moisture-starved, so we will just include a few showers in the forecast. The front, however, is forecast to stall right over or just south of New Jersey... That leaves us susceptible to waves of energy riding along the front, which could lead to a persistently cool, cloudy, and showery Monday.
