New Jersey's weather looks to stay quiet this week with cool mornings, warm afternoons, and abundant sunshine.

The weekend ended up so-so, with rain recorded somewhere in New Jersey for both Saturday and Sunday. One important climatological note, as we closed out a record-breaking streak of weather. Every single day between July 5 and September 11 this year, the high temperature at Newark Liberty International Airport reached at least 80° days. That amounts to an impressive 69 consecutive day run, breaking the previous record of 60 days in 2006.

Meanwhile, we are kicking off the new workweek with some "real" September-ish weather... There was a definite chill in the air this morning, as low temperatures bottomed out in the 50s for the vast majority of New Jersey. A few upper 40s were noted in the northwest corner of the state and the Pine Barrens. This was the Garden State's coolest morning since early June.

A weak disturbance will pass just to the north of New Jersey on Monday. We should stay dry from this system; however, a few extra clouds will be likely today for at least part of North Jersey. (How far south those clouds will extend - I-80, I-78, I-195, etc. - is uncertain.) Otherwise, the day will feature mostly sunny skies and a stiff west-northwest breeze, up to about 20 mph. High temperatures will be limited to the mid to upper 70s... again, the coolest temperatures since June.

With clear skies and calm winds expected tonight, we will have another night of radiative cooling and chilly temperatures. Most lows will dive into the mid 50s for the second night in a row. And once again, the traditionally coolest spots will likely see upper 40s by Tuesday morning.

Quiet and dry weather persists through the rest of the week. Tuesday will be sunny and warmer, with highs bumping into the lower 80s. On Wednesday, we add a few clouds to the sky forecast, but temperatures will continue to warm into the mid 80s. Don't worry though - humidity will stay low all week long.

Thursday and Friday look similar, with mostly sunny skies. Winds switch to a southerly direction, keeping high temperatures in the mid 80s.

On Saturday, clouds increase again. Highs will remain on the warm side, in the mid 80s.

Our next real weather-maker won't arrive until Sunday, at the earliest. For now, models have showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for late-day Sunday, as a front pushes through the state. There is, of course, still a lot of time for this system and this forecast to evolve, so please stay tuned.
